Ironclad Assistant is a conversational page in Ironclad where you can ask questions about your contracts and workflows in plain language, instead of navigating to a specific tab or report to find what you need.
Use Case
A Legal Operations Manager wants to know how long approvals are taking across her team. Rather than opening Insights and building a report, she opens Assistant and asks the question directly.

Release: One or more of the following features and functionalities will go live on August 13, 2026. To learn more about what's included in our August release, refer to What's New in Ironclad: August 2026.
Access Ironclad Assistant
Assistant appears in the top navigation bar, alongside Dashboard, Insights, and Obligations.
To open Assistant, select Assistant in the top navigation bar.
Use Ironclad Assistant
The Ironclad Assistant page opens to a single input where you enter your request in plain language. Enter your question or request, then submit it to receive a response.
Assistant is conversational: you can follow up on a response to refine or narrow it, rather than starting over with a new request.
The panel on the left of the page lists your previous conversations. From this panel, you can:
- Start a new conversation
- Search your conversations
- Return to an earlier conversation to review it or continue it
Set Ironclad Assistant to Default Home Page
By default, Ironclad Assistant is not your home page in Ironclad. If you want Ironclad to open to Assistant instead of the Dashboard, select Set Assistant as default home at the bottom of the Assistant panel.
This setting applies to your own account only. It does not change the home page for anyone else in your company, and you can turn it off at any time to return to your previous home page.
How Ironclad Assistant Handles Queries
Assistant handles a request in one of two ways:
- Answering directly. Assistant finds the relevant contracts, workflows, and data and returns an answer, with the records and context behind it.
- Routing to an agent. When a request calls for a specific capability, Assistant hands it to the Ironclad agent that handles it, so you can move from an answer to the next step without leaving the conversation. Admins may need to enable certain AI agents before it's available to users through this feature.
Example Questions
Assistant answers questions about your contracts, your workflows, and the data inside them. It finds the relevant records and returns a contextual answer, with summaries and snippets from the source.
Questions Assistant can answer include:
- Which contracts are up for renewal next quarter?
- What are our payment terms with this vendor?
- Are there any high-risk clauses in this agreement?
- Who needs to approve this agreement next?
- What is the latest activity on this workflow?
- How many of my in-flight contracts are in the review stage?
Ironclad Agents and Features
When a request calls for a specific capability, Assistant routes it to the Ironclad agent that handles it. Which agents are available to you depends on which features are enabled for your company and on your permissions. Newly released Ironclad agents become available through Assistant as they ship.
Assistant can invoke and route to:
Individual agents may have their own scope, permission requirements, and limitations. See the agent's article for details.
