Summary
This article walks you through how to view view and manage obligations from the workflow or record connected to a contract. This helps you review contract commitments in context, update them as needed, and keep related obligations organized by type.
Use Case
At Classics Inc., a legal operations specialist opens a supplier record to review contract obligations before a renewal meeting. They use the contract’s Obligations tab to check existing obligations, group them by type, and update the list when terms change. This helps the team keep contract commitments accurate and easy to review.
Prerequisites
| Features | Obligations |
| Permissions | You must have access to the related contract to view and manage the associated obligations. |
View a Contract’s Obligations
When an obligation is created, it is linked to a contract within Ironclad. You can click on any workflow or record, and then click on the associated document. The document displays.
From here, you can click the Obligations tab located on the right and view a list of the obligations associated with that contract, as well as edit, delete, and add obligations. Obligations are grouped together by their obligation type.
Add an Obligation
To add an obligation, click click the plus icon in the top right corner. You have two options to add an obligation:
-
Add manually: Click Add manually to manually add an obligation. A panel displays on the right where you can add an obligation to the contract.
- Extract obligations: Click Extract obligations to extract obligations from the contract using Ironclad AI. Select the obligation types you want to extract, then click Continue > Extract. Ironclad AI extracts the obligations and automatically adds them as drafts to your contract, assigning them to the correct users (according to your obligation type’s settings). You can open a draft obligation, edit its details, and then click Mark as Verified. (Obligations only become drafts if the obligation type has the ‘required review’ setting enabled.) To learn more, refer to Extract Obligations from a Contract.
Edit an Obligation
To edit an obligation, click on the obligation you want to edit and a summary window displays on the right. Click Edit located in the top right corner. The Edit obligation modal displays on the right.
Delete an Obligation
To delete an obligation, click on the checkbox next to the obligation you want to delete. Click the trash can icon located in the top right corner. Click Delete obligation.
You can also click on the obligation itself, and then click the Delete button in the top right.
