Import/Export allows you to move workflow configurations between your testing environment on demo.ironcladapp.com and your live environment.
Export a Workflow Configuration
To export a workflow configuration, open the overflow menu on the workflow card, and select “Export”.
This will download a file with extension “.icb”, which can now be imported into your production environment.
Import a Workflow Configuration
On the Workflow Designer home page, select Import, then upload the “.icb” file.
This will create a new workflow configuration with the imported definition.
Upon importing, you will be prompted to reassign any roles (Approvers, Signers, etc.) to users of your production environment. You will also be prompted to reconfigure any Record access, if applicable.
Import New Version of a Workflow Configuration
This is especially helpful if you have a Salesforce Integration or APIs. By importing a new version of an existing workflow, you preserve the configurations.
Your existing Salesforce and Coupa integration configurations will remain intact. Verify that any form question changes you made didn't impact the integration.
On the Workflow Designer home page, locate the workflow configuration you want to update. Click the three stacked dots beside it, and then click Import New Version. Upload the .icb file. Your uploaded file replaces the existing workflow configuration. For playbooks, check “Override Playbook Schema” to include playbooks in your import.
Unpublish a Related Workflow Configuration
If the imported workflow configuration is intended to replace an existing workflow configuration, you may need to unpublish the previous workflow configuration. You can do so by selecting “Unpublish” on the overflow menu.
Please be aware that unpublishing a workflow configuration will:
-
Make it unavailable for users to launch until the replacement workflow is published.
-
Disconnect it from any existing Salesforce configurations, which will need to be rebuilt for the replacement workflow.
-
Break any related API integrations. They will need to be updated with the ID of the replacement workflow configuration.

Migration Checklist
When you migrate a workflow from a demo to a production environment, there are a variety of steps you must take to configure the environment:
Import/Export Workflow Configurations
Import/Export allows you to move workflow configurations between your testing environment on demo.ironcladapp.com and your live environment.
Complete the steps above to move your workflow configurations to your live environment.
Configure Groups
As an administrator, you can create, update, delete, and manage the membership of Ironclad groups.
Configure your live environment's groups to fit your company's needs.
Configure Permissions
User permissions in Ironclad are managed at the group level. Administrators in Ironclad have access to the Groups page to manage user permissions for all users in the company’s instance.
Configure your groups' permissions to ensure the correct access is granted to each group.
Configure Roles
There are four different roles within Ironclad:
- Approvers
- Signers
- Signature Coordinators
- Archivers
Assign your users and groups the appropriate roles. We also recommend reviewing your custom email recipients and any applicable workflow/record access settings.
Set Up Out-of-the-Box Integrations
There are three out-of-the-box integrations you can configure:
Map Salesforce Configurations
You must map both workflow and record sync before using your Salesforce integration in your live environment.
To map the workflow sync, review the documentation and complete the relevant steps.
To map the record sync, create corresponding records types in Ironclad, and then coordinate with your LE/IC to import the configuration.
Test Workflows in Production
You can use sandbox mode to test workflows, integrations, and features without impacting your primary production instance, and without requiring you to log into a different account (i.e. preview or demo). It gives you a safe, easy way to test your Ironclad account.
You can use sandbox mode to test and optimize:
- Workflows
- Dashboard
- Repository
- Record upload
- SFDC integration
- API keys
