If your organization manages multiple Ironclad instances on the same domain, you can push workflow configurations from one instance to another. For example, you can push configurations from one na1.ironcladapp.com instance to another na1.ironcladapp.com instance.
Admins can push workflow configurations directly from one instance to another. When you push a workflow configuration, Ironclad also carries over related configuration objects, such as:
- Workflow permissions and role assignments
- Properties used on the workflow
- Playbooks attached to the workflow
- Entities referenced in the workflow
- Obligations configured on the workflow
- Groups used in the workflow (optional)
You can push the workflow configuration as a new version, or update an existing workflow configuration on the target instance.
If you want to move a workflow configuration between demo and production environments, refer to Move a Workflow Configuration Between Demo and Production Environments.
Use Case
Classics Inc. uses a dedicated Ironclad instance to validate a new “Vendor Master Services Agreement” workflow configuration before rolling it out to all users. The Legal Operations Manager finalizes the workflow in their test instance, then uses Workflow Designer’s “Push version” action to send the configuration—and its related permissions, properties, playbooks, entities, and obligations—directly to the Classics Inc. production instance.
In production, they make any environment‑specific adjustments, test it in Sandbox to confirm behavior, then publish the new workflow and unpublish any legacy version so users only launch the tested, current configuration.

Push a Workflow Configuration to Another Instance
- Click on the Workflow Designer tab.
- Locate the workflow configuration you want to push, and then click the three stacked dots.
- Click Push version.
- Under Destination, select your instance. Only instances you have been provisioned access to will be listed as options.
- Select whether you want to:
- Create a new workflow: Generates a new workflow configuration in the destination instance.
-
Import as new version: Updates an existing configuration in the destination instance. You can then select which existing workflow configuration you want to update.
- If there are groups that don’t exist in the instance you are pushing to, select whether or not you want to Automatically create missing Groups.
- Click Confirm. The workflow configuration is sent to the target instance.
- In the target instance, open Workflow Designer and review the pushed workflow configuration. By default, it is unpublished. Once you are done reviewing the workflow configuration, publish it.
