Internal turn tracking helps you identify who owns the next internal action on a workflow. Use it to understand internal review ownership, manage dependencies, and distinguish internal review time from time spent waiting on others.
Use Case
A legal operations team needs to understand why a workflow is delayed. Internal turn tracking helps the team identify which internal review action is next so the team can follow up with the appropriate owner.

Ironclad Early Access Program: This feature is in Early Access and may change before it is generally available. If you're interested in this feature, please reach out to your Ironclad representative or Support to see if you're eligible for EAP access.
How Internal Turn Tracking Works
Internal turn tracking is designed to show which internal person or approval owns the next action on a workflow. This gives reviewers and workflow participants clearer visibility into internal review ownership.
The feature also distinguishes internal review time from time spent waiting on others. This can help teams investigate review bottlenecks and better understand internal review duration.
Supporting Reviewers
An approver can add multiple Ironclad users, groups, or external reviewers as supporting reviewers. Adding a supporting reviewer won’t block the progress of the workflow because the parent approver remains accountable for the approval itself. Learn more about adding supporting reviewers.
While a supporting reviewer is active, the parent approver’s timer is paused, and the supporting reviewer’s time runs. When the supporting review is resolved, the parent approver’s timer resumes.
Supporting reviewers cannot approve or reject workflows.
Internal Turn Tracking vs. Turn Tracking
Existing turn tracking features identify whether the Internal or Counterparty party is reviewing a draft document. It records turn information that users can view in workflows, on the Dashboard, and in records.
Internal turn tracking adds details about who owns the next internal action. Learn more about turn tracking.
Access Internal Turn Tracking
Internal turn tracking is currently enabled through EAP. It is not a self-service setting.
To enable internal turn tracking:
- Contact your Ironclad representative or submit a request to ask about EAP eligibility.
- After Ironclad confirms that the feature is enabled for your instance, launch a new workflow to use internal turn tracking.
Internal turn tracking will apply to new workflows that are launched. Existing workflow instances won’t be updated to internal turn tracking.
