Workflow Designer Agent Overview – Ironclad

The Workflow Designer Agent helps workflow admins configure and review workflows using natural-language requests. The WFD Agent works inside the Ironclad Assistant panel in Workflow Designer and can help with workflow fields, forms, lifecycle information, notifications, and configuration reviews.

Use Case

Use the WFD Agent when you know the workflow outcome you want but do not want to configure every field, form, condition, or notification manually. For example, you can ask it to add a Subscription Fee field, move a question on the Launch Form, or review a workflow for configuration issues.

Permissions	An admin must enable the Workflow Designer Agent in Company Settings. Users must have Workflow Designer permissions.

What Is the Workflow Designer Agent?

The WFD Agent is a natural-language assistant inside Workflow Designer. Describe the workflow change or review you want, and the WFD Agent can help apply or explain the configuration changes within the workflow you are editing.

The WFD Agent is intended for users who build, maintain, or review Workflow Designer configurations. It is not intended for users who launch workflows or complete forms.

What Can the Workflow Designer Agent Do?

The WFD Agent can help you:

Design forms and manage form fields: Create, configure, and organize fields (text, numbers, monetary amounts, dates, booleans, dropdowns, documents), group them into form sections, add help text, set default values, and configure visibility conditions.
Configure approval workflows: Set up parallel or sequential approval groups, assign approvals to specific users or groups, build conditional routing, and define approval reset rules.
Build conditions and business logic: Build and manage local or company-wide conditions using field comparisons, nested rules, or formulas to gate form inputs, sections, emails, and approver steps.
Calculate values with formulas: Author formula fields to auto-calculate values, durations, dates, or monetary amounts from other workflow data.
Manage workflow settings and notifications: Manage review turn settings, record type bindings, workflow naming, and step notification triggers.
Audit and troubleshoot workflows: Review configurations for best practices, check for validation errors, identify performance bottlenecks, and resolve setup conflicts.

Known Limitations

Some tasks must be completed outside the WFD Agent:

Document and template design	Edit document templates or their formatting, including text, fonts, margins, spacing, headers, footers, and styles. Insert or place smart tags for fields, clauses, and conditions inside document templates. Position eSignature blocks, initials, or date-signed tags at specific document coordinates.	Format the Microsoft Word template in Word before uploading it. Use drag-and-drop placement in the visual Document Editor. Place eSignature tags on the Sign tab.
Email content and rich text	Customize notification email subjects, body text, merge tags, or rich-text content.	In Workflow Designer, open the relevant stage and select the Create Custom Email (or Custom Emails) tab.
Company-wide administration and integrations	Access or modify other workflows, configure external integrations, create global Record Types, or modify system-managed properties and settings.	Open the specific workflow you want to edit. Manage integrations in company-level settings and Record Types in Data Manager. System properties retain their platform-locked data types and labels.
Runtime actions	Reassign the workflow launcher after launch or manually skip runtime steps.	The launcher remains the user who initiated the workflow. Model step inclusion or exclusion with conditions in the workflow configuration.
