What is a Subscription Agent?
Subscription-based agents use a flat, one-time AI Credit deduction for each user, per year. This model applies to the Contract Review Agent and Analytics Agent, so credit usage is based on the number of users who have access rather than the number of individual actions they perform.
The following agents consume AI credits on a subscription basis:

What is a Subscription Agent Group?
Subscription Agent Groups are special user groups that control access to Subscription Agents. Each subscription agent has exactly one designated group, the single path through which access is granted and credits are automatically deducted.
Before you begin
Before you add/remove a user from a subscription agent group:
Confirm that you are an administrator who can manage group membership.
Confirm that the user needs access to the Subscription Agent associated with the group.
Review your available subscriptions and credits before adding users.
Add a user to a Subscription Agent Group
- Click on your profile icon in the top right corner, and then select Company Settings > Groups. All of the groups in your company’s instance are displayed.
- Select the Subscription Agent Group for the agent you want to manage, and then click Add users.
- Select one or more users.
- Review the credit deduction, then confirm the assignment.
When you add a user, Ironclad deducts credits based on the number of days remaining in your annual contract term. The charge is prorated rather than billed as a full annual subscription.
Credit deduction example
For an annual contract from January 1 through December 31, adding a user to Contract Review Agent on October 1 leaves 92 days in the contract term. If the agent costs 3,000 credits per subscription, the deduction is calculated as follows:
3,000 × (92 ÷ 365) = 756 credits
Remove a user from a Subscription Agent Group
- Click on your profile icon in the top right corner, and then select Company Settings > Groups. All of the groups in your company’s instance are displayed.
- Select the Subscription Agent Group for the agent you want to manage.
- Find the user you want to remove.
- Click the three stacked dots in the user's row, and then click Remove user.
Removing a user does not refund the credits already deducted. It does make that subscription available for reassignment during the current year of the contract term.
If you assign another user to the same Subscription Agent Group during that year of the contract term, Ironclad reuses the available subscription and does not deduct additional credits.
Example of subscription reassignment
User A is assigned on January 1, and 3,000 credits are deducted.
User A is removed on March 1. The original deduction is not refunded.
User B is assigned on June 1. No additional credits are deducted because the subscription is reassigned.
Administrators can view how many subscriptions are in use and how many are available for reassignment during the contract term.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Can I delete or rename a Subscription Agent Group?
Subscription Agent Groups are system-defined and locked. You can add or remove users, but you cannot delete the group, rename it, or change its permissions.
Do I receive a credit refund when I remove a user?
Removing a user does not refund the credits deducted for the subscription. The subscription becomes available for reassignment during the current contract term.
Is a new charge applied when I reassign a subscription?
Assigning a new user to the same Subscription Agent Group during the current contract term does not deduct additional credits when an available subscription can be reassigned.
