The Glean–Ironclad connector lets Glean index your Ironclad workflows, repository records, and contract documents through a secure, OAuth-based API integration, while continuing to enforce the same SSO, SAML, and record-level permissions your users already have in Ironclad.
With the connector enabled, users can ask Glean contract-specific questions and quickly surface relevant Ironclad records and documents—such as active agreements, statuses, key terms, and related activity—without changing how access is governed in Ironclad or duplicating contract data elsewhere.
There is no “out-of-the-box integration” built by Ironclad itself, but many customers run Glean successfully in production. Ironclad supports it via our public API and OAuth framework and requires that API access is enabled.
The Glean connector is not supported in Ironclad Sandbox Mode. You can integrate with a production or demo environment.
Permissions
| Features | API, Glean |
| Permissions | You must be an Ironclad Admin and a Glean admin to connect Glean with Ironclad. You must have API access to create the OAuth app and let Glean call Ironclad’s APIs. |
Prerequisites
To use the Glean–Ironclad connector, you must have:
- An active Ironclad tenant with API access enabled.
- An active Glean tenant with rights to enable the Ironclad connector.
- SSO/SAML configured so that user identities (emails) are consistent between Ironclad and Glean.
Connect Ironclad and Glean
To connect Ironclad and Glean, an Ironclad admin creates an OAuth app in Company Settings → API → Apps, configuring the Authorization Code grant type, the exact redirect URI provided by Glean, and read-only scopes for records, workflows, entities, and attachments.
A Glean admin then opens the Ironclad data source in Glean, enters the OAuth client ID and secret, sets the Server domain to match the Ironclad login host, and completes the one-time authorization flow using SSO. Once authorization succeeds, Glean begins indexing Ironclad workflows, repository records, and documents according to each user’s existing Ironclad permissions.
For step-by-step instructions, refer to Glean’s Ironclad connector documentation.
Data and Permissions
Users and Permissions
Glean uses the Ironclad OAuth app to obtain tokens that act on behalf of users. Ironclad evaluates each request using the user’s email identity and existing permissions. If a user cannot see a record in Ironclad, they will not see it via Glean either. This means that role, group, and record‑level access must still be configured and maintained directly in Ironclad.
Glean mirrors Ironclad’s permissions and users. Ironclad enforces access based on the email in the API call, so the Glean user’s email must match their Ironclad user, otherwise they’ll see 403s or missing data.
Indexed Data
The exact data indexed is determined by Glean’s connector configuration and API scopes, but typically includes:
- Workflows and repository records (e.g., master agreements, NDAs, order forms)
- Associated documents and attachments
- Relevant contract metadata (such as status, parties, key dates, and custom properties)
Any indexing is read‑only. The connector does not modify workflows or contracts in Ironclad.
Ownership and Support Boundaries
Ironclad Responsibilities
Ironclad provides the API, OAuth framework, and configuration guidance needed for a secure connection (for example, helping validate OAuth app scopes, redirect URIs, and SAML domain alignment).
Glean Responsibilities
The connector is built, shipped, and owned by Glean. Glean owns the connector’s internal behavior (for example, how callbacks are handled, how tokens are persisted, and how the Ironclad data source toggle is managed). When Ironclad confirms that OAuth and SSO are working correctly but the Glean data source toggle does not stay on, you should continue troubleshooting with Glean Support.
Troubleshoot the Ironclad and Glean Connection
If you encounter problems when connecting Glean and Ironclad, refer to Troubleshoot: Ironclad and Glean Connector.
