This article will walk you through the Ironclad Signature signing experience.
While documents are sent for signature based on configurations like signing order and the workflow configuration “sending trigger,” the signing flow is largely the same:
- Signers receive an email when it’s their turn to sign.
- Signers are able to view the document and perform additional actions including reassigning* or declining the document and providing additional information.
- Once completed, signers are redirected to either an Ironclad experience or the destination of your choice (configurable in Workflow Designer) and an email notification is sent.
Keep the following considerations in mind:
- Internal, external, and viewer CC recipients will have different actions available, explored in the following table. A user is considered “internal” when they have an active session with (or are signed into) the sending Ironclad company.
- Documents are presented in a mobile-friendly format by default, but are always available as PDFs.

Customize Your Signature
Font and Color
You have the option to customize your signature's appearance by choosing from two colors—black and blue—and three different fonts.
Upload a Signature
When signing a document, select Upload to upload an image of your signature. The image will be used in place of a manually entered signature throughout the document.
Once the image is uploaded, it is compressed to a max of 500 X 500px. Images will retain their aspect ratio. You cannot mix Type and Upload signatures. You must select one or the other to use throughout the document.
Date Format
If you are an admin, you can configure your company’s date format to best meet your needs. The following formats are available:
- M-D-YYY
- MM-DD-YYYY
- DD-MM-YYYY
- YYY-MM-DD
- Day Month Year
- Month Day, Year
- Day of Week, Month Day, Year
To learn how to enable this functionality, refer to Configure Ironclad Signature.
