Can I use both custom clauses and AI-detected clauses in a workflow template?
Yes, and we highly encourage you to do so. Our AI service currently supports 175 clauses and this list will continue to grow. Both clause types have their own benefits:

Do I need to use Ironclad AI when creating Playbooks to review contracts?
No, you do not need to use Ironclad AI when creating Playbooks to review contracts. You have complete control over whether you use custom or AI-detected clauses and terms in contract reviews and negotiations.
I already have an existing Playbook. Do I need to create a new Playbook for AI-detected clauses? How do I do this?
No, you do not need to create a new Playbook. You can open the Playbook you want to update and add an AI-detected clause. To do this, follow the steps in Use Ironclad AI Playbooks.
Your existing language for standard and fallback terms is retained, and you can update it at any time. After you publish your Playbook updates, the changes are applied to all future workflows.
If I have defined clauses in Playbooks outside of the clauses that Ironclad AI supports, will deviations to those also be detected if I have standard/fallback language defined?
Ironclad AI supports 175 clauses. Any deviations from these 175 clause types are not detected and users will need to manually mark usage and clause position used in the document.
Do Ironclad AI Playbooks work on all contract types?
Ironclad AI Playbooks can review all contract types, but are currently optimized for reviewing standard business agreements like NDAs, MSAs, DPAs, sales order forms, and vendor agreements. We plan to broaden and expand AI clause detection for more types of agreements and other use cases in the future.
Are Ironclad AI Playbooks available to EU customers?
Yes, Playbooks, powered by Ironclad AI, are available to EU customers.
Which languages does Ironclad AI support?
We currently support English.
Are clause approvals automatically reset if the text of the clause changes using Ironclad AI Playbooks?
Yes. With each document edit and document version, Ironclad automatically reviews the changes and takes the appropriate action based on the Playbook confirmation. This enables your team to safely delegate and manage any clause exception approvals to relevant stakeholders.
Are clause approvals retained on future document versions if the clause text has not changed?
Yes. You can accurately capture any required clause approvals even if other areas of document are negotiated and worked on. As long as the clause text that was previously approved does not change, Playbooks does not require the clause to be re-approved.
Will clause approvals for non-standard terms or exceptions be reset if ‘Reset all approvals’ is used during the workflow or document editing process?
Yes. If Reset all approvals is selected, Ironclad requires all workflow and clause approvers to approve before the workflow can advance.
Are Playbook rules available for all AI-powered clauses?
No. Currently, Playbook rules are only available for the Governing Law and Payment AI-detected clause types. We hope to expand this to more clause types later this year.
Which document file types can AI-powered Playbooks support?
Ironclad Playbooks support both PDF and DOCX document files.
