Summary
This article walks you through how to add and resize signature tags during the Sign step.
Use Case
At Classics Inc., a signature coordinator adds signature and initials tags to a vendor agreement during the Sign step and resizes them to align with the intended signing areas. This helps ensure each signer can complete the correct fields before the agreement is sent.

Add/Resize Signature Tags During the Sign Step
When you launch a workflow and select Counterparty Paper as the paper source, the signature coordinator is prompted to place signature tags during the Sign step.
Ironclad will always prompt the signature coordinator to place tags on your counterparty paper, even if they have signer role tags already placed. This is to ensure that the correct tags are placed and correspond to the roles that are directly available in the workflow template used.
The signature coordinator is also asked to tag the documents if new versions of documents have been uploaded at Review so that there are no signature tags, and if a new signer has been added to the workflow.
If you want more information on how to optimize your document for signatures, refer to Format Microsoft Word Documents.
-
Click Tag documents for signature.
- Drag and drop the tags for each signer from the left panel to where you would like the signature blocks to be. The box surrounding the tag represents the properties that your recipient will see.
- To resize a tag, hover over the bottom right corner; an arrow displays. Click and drag to adjust the width and height of the box.
The white box represents where the tag will render. The purple identifier tag will not be displayed when the document is sent out for signature. -
Placed tags are required by default, but can be made optional by selecting the tag and clicking Make optional. You can make optional properties required by selecting Make required.
- To add an initials tag to the document, drag and drop an Initials tag from the left panel to the document.
- Click Send for signature and you are prompted to send out the signature request. There is currently no way to consistently review and apply tags before sending for signature.
