What is Jurist?
Jurist is Ironclad’s AI-powered legal assistant designed to help legal professionals draft, edit, summarize, and research contracts and legal documents. Built on advanced large language models and conversational AI, Jurist offers features such as document redlining, guided prompt creation, contract analysis, and real-time legal research with embedded citations.
You can upload documents, reference playbooks, and interact with Jurist through a chat-like interface, all within a secure, native .docx environment. By automating routine tasks and providing context-aware insights, Jurist streamlines legal workflows, improves efficiency, and allows legal teams to focus on higher-value work while maintaining oversight and control.
Jurist Becomes Contract Review Agent on October 8, 2026
Release: This article describes features and functionality planned for our October release. Some features may not be available until October 8, 2026.
On October 8, 2026, Ironclad Jurist will become Contract Review Agent. The new name reflects its role as Ironclad’s specialized agent for contract review, including redlining, risk analysis, and drafting.
This update replaces the Jurist experience with the new Contract Review Agent experience. Existing Jurist users will continue to have access to the contract review capabilities they use today, with their existing permissions unchanged, but they will access those capabilities through Contract Review Agent.
Contract Review Agent Updates
The October 8 release also includes the following feature updates for Contract Review Agent (fka Jurist):
More ways to start a review: Launch Contract Review Agent from Ironclad Agent, from within a workflow, or from the Microsoft Word Add-In.
Precedent-based redlining (Early Access): Select an executed or archived agreement from your Ironclad repository, or upload a precedent file, to inform a first-pass redline. Contract Review Agent identifies the precedent behind each suggested change so reviewers can evaluate, accept, reject, or edit the recommendation.
Playbook Agent (Early Access): Generate review-ready playbooks from templates, precedents, and agreements.
Professional Services requirements: Professional Services will continue to be required for playbook creation and optimization before using Redlining with Playbooks. Professional Services is not required for redlining with precedents or other Contract Review Agent capabilities, but remains available. The playbook setup requirement is expected to change when Playbook Agent is generally available.
Pricing transition: Contract Review Agent will move toward subscription-based AI Credits pricing. Existing Jurist seat arrangements continue through the current contract term, with migration timing determined by the customer’s contract and pricing model. Additional pricing and packaging details will be communicated separately.
How Do I Use Jurist?
To use Jurist, you’ll simply enter a prompt, add a contract, and chat. Jurist carries out your request on the right, logging each step in the Logs panel on the left. From there, it works just like a conversation! You can ask Jurist to edit different sections of the document, simplify the language, add in different clauses, and much more.
What Are Some General Guidelines for Using Jurist?
Interacting with Jurist is as simple as engaging in a chat. Here are some tips to help you get started:
- Be specific. Clearly describe your query or task. For example, “Jurist, write a detailed memo for a Series A food delivery startup in California on the classification of employees vs contractors."
- Indicate who you are. By telling Jurist whether you are part of the company or the counterparty, it will be able to draft content and redlines with your role in mind.
- Provide context. The more details you provide, the more tailored Jurist's assistance will be. For instance, "Draft a non-disclosure agreement for a tech startup, focusing on intellectual property protection."
- Continue the conversation. If Jurist's response isn't quite what you needed, ask follow-up questions or request more specific information.
- Always review AI-generated content. While AI is a powerful tool, it's important to remember that it doesn't replace the need for human judgment and legal expertise.
