The import summary confirms that your configuration was imported, and provides a categorized overview of which objects were created, require attention, or weren’t created during the import process. You can use import summaries to quickly spot missing items or resolve conflicts that prevent you from publishing your imported workflow configurations.
Use Case
An admin at Classics, Inc. wants to test, stage, and ship changes in their demo environment instead of their production environment. They use the import summary to confirm what was created, see which users and groups auto-mapped, auto-create any missing groups (if enabled), identify and invite missing users, verify that new properties carried over with the right metadata, and resolve any items in the Not Created, Needs Attention, or Created categories.

Import Summary Categories
Objects are divided into three categories based on their import status:
- Not Created: Lists objects that weren’t created because their type isn’t supported for creation during import or because the importer didn’t have the required permissions.
- Needs Attention: Lists objects that were imported but require additional configuration or review before the workflow configuration will function as expected.
- Created: Lists objects that were missing from your Ironclad instance and have been automatically created during import.
Import summaries will highlight if certain missing objects will prevent the workflow configuration from being published, if the configuration you’re trying to import was overridden, or if any objects (such as users or properties) were added to the target environment.
If there are no objects to list in any given category, the category will be omitted from the import summary report.
Import Summary Objects
The import summary focuses on improving visibility into changes that may impact areas in your Ironclad instance beyond the configuration itself. As a result, the import summary only reports on objects that exist outside of the configuration that can be referenced across the rest of the instance.
Note: Objects like conditions or document templates only exist within their configuration, and don’t impact areas in the rest of your Ironclad instance. As a result, these objects aren’t covered in the import summary.
The following objects can be found in your import summary:
- Properties in Data Manager
- Record Types available in Data Manager
- Clauses in the Global Clause Library
- Users and Groups in your Ironclad instance
If you successfully import a workflow configuration but have missing properties in the target instance that must be created during the import process, all property metadata is carried over to the new property. Your created property retains the same visibility, description, etc., as what was exported.
Missing Users and Groups
If Users and Groups exist in the target instance and can be matched to their respective user or group in the imported configuration, they’re automatically matched.
If Users in the imported configuration are missing from the target instance, the import summary displays the missing users to the workflow configuration owner, who can choose to invite them to the instance.
If Groups in the imported configuration are missing from the target instance, the workflow configuration owner may have the option to automatically create the missing groups upon import. Selecting this option creates an empty group of the same name in your instance. Members of that group must be added after import.
Note: The option to automatically create missing groups upon import must be enabled by an admin. Admins can enable the Allow workflow configuration import to create groups setting under Company Settings Settings General.
Create an Import Summary
Import summaries are automatically created alongside imported workflow configurations. Once you’ve finished uploading your workflow configuration, you’ll be automatically taken to the import summary.
Warning: Import summaries are only available for configuration files exported on the day of this feature’s release (November 20, 2025) and onwards.
To create an import summary:
- On the Workflow Designer page, click the vertical ellipsis icon in the top-right corner.
- Click Import in the dropdown menu.
- Optional: Check the box next to Automatically create missing Groups. Admins must enable the Allow workflow configuration import to create groups setting under Company Settings > Settings > General.
- Upload your .icb file, and click Import.
You can exit the import summary at any time, and return to it in related configuration’s version history.
View an Existing Import Summary
Once created, import summaries persist and can be accessed again in a workflow configuration’s version history. Users will be able to see every past import summary in the version history of the workflow configuration it was imported with.
To view an import summary:
- On the Workflow Designer page, click the vertical ellipsis icon in the top-right corner.
- Select the imported workflow configuration you’d like to review.
- Click the vertical ellipsis icon, and select Open version history from the dropdown menu.
- Click Import Summary.
Sections only include objects if it needs attention. If there isn’t anything to address, the import summary will be empty to reflect that all objects were completely imported.
Import Summary Reference Table
The following table displays all possible combinations of objects that may appear and the categories they can be found in.
Note: Objects are listed alphabetically (A-Z) in each category, with the exception of clauses. Clauses are first ordered by Clause Type, then Clause Type (A-Z), and lastly, Clause Variant (A-Z).
