Release: The following functionality will be live on November 20th. To learn more about the features included in our November release, refer to What's New in Ironclad: November 2025.
You can create and manage contract families throughout the contracting process to ensure all related agreements are properly linked. If your workflow configuration is configured to support contract relationships, you can establish these connections at key points in the workflow: on the Launch Form, during the Review step, and again in the Archive step. This flexibility allows requesters to link contracts early in the process, while Legal and Legal Operations teams can review and confirm those relationships before finalizing the record, ensuring data accuracy and complete visibility across related agreements.
Note: The amendment functionality is currently only available on records. You can not designate amendments on the launch form.
To learn more about contract families and their function, refer to the Contract Families Overview.
Use Case
At Classics Inc., multiple contracts often relate to a single client or project, such as a Master Service Agreement and associated Statements of Work. When a requester initiates a new contract through the Launch Form, they can link it to an existing parent or related records. During the Review step, the Legal team can verify these connections, make adjustments, or add additional child records. Finally, during the Archive step, Legal Operations confirms that all contract relationships are accurate before saving the workflow. This approach provides Classics Inc. with a complete, organized view of all related agreements, reduces errors, and improves contract management efficiency.

Add Contract Relationships on the Launch Form
The launch form can include questions allowing you to select parent, child, and related records. When presented with a Contract Family launch form question, you'll need to search for an existing record to link. Each search result shows whether the record has any child records, its Record Type, Agreement Date, and up to three additional properties (which can be configured in Workflow Designer). These details help you select the correct record to link to.
This functionality is designed for users who want contract requesters to create contract relationships at the start of a workflow, rather than having the Legal team create them later in the contracting process. It also supports use cases where requesters need to ensure that a new contract is linked to necessary pre-existing governing documents, such as an active NDA, or where data from an existing record should populate automatically to reduce manual entry.
Add or Edit Contract Relationships During the Review Step
You can also add or edit contract relationships during the Review step. To do so, under the Properties section, click Edit. This allows you to edit your previous contract relationships or create new ones.
This option is only available if a “Related Record” question is configured for that workflow configuration.
Add and Edit Contract Relationships During the Archive Step
During the Archive step, you have another opportunity to review the contract relationships that have been established on the launch form and Review step. This is useful for Legal and Legal Ops to verify that all of the workflow data that is being saved is accurate, including related records
To modify the related records at this step, click View and edit properties. A form displays that allows you to edit all of the workflow data.
This option is only available if a “Related Record” question is configured for that workflow configuration.
