Oftentimes, entities do not stand alone. You might have multiple entities that are related to each other or that belong to the same corporate family or business structure. These entities can be parent companies, subsidiaries, or affiliates that share connections important to your organization.
When reviewing entity data, you need visibility into the full family structure to understand ownership, control, and related obligations. You can use entity families to represent these connections and make it easier to view related entities together.
Parent and child (also called subsidiaries) entities represent a specific type of entity relationship where the entities are directly connected and should be evaluated as a group. Child entities are typically considered sub-entities of the parent.
If any entity has one or more subsidiaries, you can filter the parent entity’s contracts based on those subsidiaries. This gives you a complete view of your contracting activity across a corporate family, helping you spot shared or conflicting terms and identify opportunities to negotiate more strategically.
Use Case
Classics Inc. is the parent company of several subsidiaries, including Classics Europe and Classics Asia. When the procurement team needs to review contracts, they do not just look at agreements signed by Classics Inc. directly. They also need to consider contracts held by its subsidiaries.
Using the filter option, the team starts from the parent entity (Classics Inc.) and narrows the view to contracts belonging to Classics Europe and Classics Asia. This makes it easier to review obligations across the corporate family without having to search for each subsidiary individually.
