You can create and edit entity families for any given entity by linking it with other entities from the Entity family modal.
Oftentimes, entities do not stand alone and can belong to the same corporate family or business structure. Entity families helps you visualize corporate structures to better understand the scope of work and obligations with a set of entities. You can create and manage these families by linking entities. A common relationship is parent-child, where a child entity is a direct sub-entity of the parent.
Use Case
A company is expanding internationally and has recently acquired several regional subsidiaries. The legal team needs to track these relationships to understand ownership structures and compliance obligations.
For example, Classics Inc. (Parent) owns Classics Europe and Classics Asia as subsidiaries. To keep this information accurate in Ironclad, the team opens the Entity Family modal from the Classics Inc. entity. From there, they link the two subsidiaries as child entities under Classics Inc.
Later, when Classics Inc. establishes a new affiliate, Classics Canada, the team edits the existing entity family to add this new child entity. By maintaining these connections in the entity family, the legal team ensures that anyone reviewing entity data can quickly see the full family structure, ownership relationships, and related obligations (if applicable).
