Summary
This article will walk you through how to get started identifying and adding clauses to the Clause Library.
When you get started with the Clause Library, you must first identify the clause you want to globalize. There are two paths you can take:
-
Use an existing clause from a workflow configuration
- In Workflow Designer, tag the clause in an existing workflow configuration.
- Once tagged, the clause is added to the Clause Library.
-
Create a new clause directly in the Clause Library
- If the clause is not already part of an existing workflow configuration, create it directly in the Clause Library.
- You can then use that clause in future workflow configurations.
Use Case
At Classics Inc., a legal operations manager standardizes contract language in two ways: first, they use Workflow Designer to tag an existing clause in a workflow configuration, which adds that clause to the Clause Library at the same time; second, when approved language doesn’t already exist in a workflow, they create a new clause directly in the Clause Library so it can be reused in future workflow configurations. This helps the team centralize both existing template language and newly created standard language in one place for easier reuse and maintenance.

Identify a Clause to Globalize
To start using the Clause Library, it's best to work clause-by-clause rather than configuring each workflow configuration separately.
Start with a clause that:
- Appears in multiple workflow configurations
- Needs occasional or regular updates
For a quicker setup, choose a clause without conditional variations. However, conditional clauses can also be used.
Tag the Existing Clause in Workflow Designer
Find and tag one instance of your clause in Workflow Designer. Doing so from Workflow Designer will add it to your Clause Library and tag it in the workflow configuration at the same time.
Add a Clause within the Clause Library
Add a clause directly within the Clause Library. The clause is then available to use in all of your workflow configurations.
