AI Assist™ is the only AI feature currently powered by OpenAI. This feature is turned off by default for all customers and requires explicit enablement by an Admin on your account. Ironclad will never turn AI Assist on for your account without your explicit permission.
Our customer’s data security and privacy are our top priority. Ironclad has a “do not train” provision in our agreement with OpenAI; your data is never used to train the OpenAI model.
What is AI Assist?
AI Assist™, powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4, allows users to edit and redline their contracts instantly. With AI Assist, users can improve contract language based on AI suggestions, request AI Assist to edit contracts automatically, and revise contracts instantly based on predefined preferred languages in AI Playbooks
How do I turn on AI Assist?
AI Assist is turned off by default. Admins must enable the feature and grant access to AI Assist by configuring Group permissions.
- Click your profile picture in the top right corner and select Company Settings from the dropdown menu.
- Click Ironclad AI in the left sidebar menu.
- Under the AI Features section, toggle on the Enable AI Assist, powered by OpenAI setting.
- Note: If the option to toggle this feature on is disabled, you may need an authorized signatory to agree to an ESA amendment.
Once AI Assist has been enabled, you can grant access to the feature by visiting the Groups page and configuring the setting for a group of users.
Is the use of AI Playbooks required to use AI Assist?
No, AI Playbooks is not required to use AI Assist. AI Assist works well with AI Playbooks and allows users to apply AI Playbooks’ suggestions with one click, but customers can also use AI Assist as a standalone feature to review, redline, and draft contracts as well without setting up AI Playbooks.
Is AI Assist available to EU customers?
Yes! As of October 9, 2025, AI Assist is available to EU customers.
Can I use AI Assist if my company signed a BAA with Ironclad?
We have a BAA in place with OpenAI, so any customer who has a BAA with us can use AI Assist.
Will my data be used by OpenAI to train their models?
We have a "do not train" provision in our agreement with OpenAI. Your data will NOT be used by OpenAI to train ChatGPT or the next version of GPT-4.
What data is shared with OpenAI for AI Assist?
Contract text is sent to OpenAI in portions. This is usually just a paragraph at a time, but could be the entire text of shorter contracts if the user selects the entire text when using the feature. Your contract text is NOT used by OpenAI to train ChatGPT or the next version of GPT-4. We have a “do not train” provision in our agreement with OpenAI.
What is our data retention policy with OpenAI?
We have a zero data retention (ZDR) agreement with OpenAI, ensuring that OpenAI will not maintain any data on their servers.
Does my customer data interpreted in AI Assist get used to train the model for other Ironclad customers?
Yes. We will take care to ensure that Ironclad AI does not compromise any data security. We do this by following industry standards, including things like data anonymization and large training data sets.
