This topic will walk you through how to manage snapshot locations. This includes creating, publishing, and editing a snapshot location.
Snapshot Locations store Snapshots for each unique experience your counterparties may see when accepting an embedded Clickwrap agreement. You can create and manage Locations using the Clickwrap web experience or APIs, and use them to keep track of browser experiences, like desktop web browsers, and native app experiences, like mobile apps.
If you include a published Location’s uniquely identifiable Location Key in your tracked acceptances, you can automatically associate captured Snapshots with the record of acceptance.
You can configure Locations to automatically capture Snapshots using emulation or our API on a daily, weekly, or monthly cadence, depending on your entitlements. Snapshots can also be manually uploaded to Locations as needed.
Use the following table to review the options available based the location configuration.
Location Type | Available Capture Frequency | Available Automation** |
---|---|---|
Desktop web browser | Daily*, Weekly, Monthly, Never | Emulation (includes Command Builder) |
Mobile web browser | Daily*, Weekly, Monthly, Never | Emulation (includes Command Builder) |
Native app | Daily*, Weekly, Monthly, Never | API |
* Daily captures are not available in all plans
** Automation is not available in all plans
Use Case
WonderWeb Inc. tests two different experiences where their terms and conditions are presented. They want to understand which experience their customers prefer.
There are two unique experiences, so two Snapshots are required.
The number of Snapshot locations you can have active is based on how many you purchased. If you have questions regarding this, please contact your CSM or Support.
Create a Snapshot Location
Required Permissions: Manage Snapshots
Create a Snapshot Location for each unique online experience counterparties may see when accepting an embedded Clickwrap agreement. Desktop and mobile web browser locations can capture Snapshots with emulation. Native app locations can capture Snapshots using the API. After creating a location, configure automation as needed and publish the Location to begin capturing Snapshots.
- Click Snapshots located at the top of your screen.
- Click Create Location and fill out the form questions.
- Click Create Location.
Bulk Create Snapshot Locations
Required Permissions: Manage Snapshots
You can update a .CSV file to create up to 500 Snapshot Locations at once. Bulk created locations are created with a Draft status and must be published individually to begin capturing Snapshots. Command Builder instructions can be created in-app, but cannot be bulk uploaded. Download a.CSV file template here.
- Click Snapshots located at the top of your screen.
- In the Overview menu indicated by three stacked docs, click Upload Locations.
- Select a single .CSV file.
- Click Upload. The first 500 rows of the uploaded file are processed. Rows after the 500th row, and rows with matching location keys or unexpected values are skipped. Location names of rows that are skipped are displayed in an in-app toast.
Publish a Snapshot Location
Required Permissions: Manage Snapshots
You must publish a Snapshot Location to begin capturing Snapshots. The location key cannot be changed after you publish the location.
- Click Snapshots located at the top of your screen.
- Select the location you want to publish.
- Click Publish. If Snapshots automation is enabled on your site, the first Snapshot is captured. Future Snapshots are captured at your defined frequency.
Edit a Snapshot Location
Required Permissions: Manage Snapshots
The location key and type cannot be edited.
- Click Snapshots located at the top of your screen.
- Select the location you want to edit.

- Select the location you want to clone.
- In the Overview menu indicated by three stacked dots, click Clone Location.
Add a Snapshot Location to an Agreed Event
Add location keys to your Clickwrap implementation to automatically tie visual evidence to tracked acceptances. You can add location keys to Clickwrap agreements implemented with both the Javascript snippet (”Client Side”) or Activity API (”Server-Side”).
- For client-side implementations, set the Snapshot location key to the snapshot_location in the Ironclad Clickwrap snippet.
- For sever-side implementations, populate the query parameter slo with the Snapshot location key. To learn more about server-side implementations, refer to the Clickwrap Developer Documentation.
- Once added to agreed events, the associated Snapshot Location(s) appear on the associated Clickwrap Group. Similarly, the associated Group appear on the Snapshot Location’s Details.
Archive a Snapshot Location
Required Permissions: Manage Snapshots
You can archive a Snapshot location when you no longer need to capture additional visual evidence for a particular online experience. Archived locations are read-only, do not count against the number of published locations, and cannot be tied to acceptances. You can view them and download evidence as needed.
- Click Snapshots located at the top of your screen.
- Select the location you want to archive.
- In the Overview menu indicated by three stacked dots, click Archive Location.
Use Case
WonderWeb Inc. creates a dedicated shopping experience for Cyber Week where consumers can sign up and make purchases during the months of December and January. The experience is taken offline after the close of the season.
Because WonderWeb Inc. is no longer presenting Clickwraps with the Cyber Week experience, the legal ops team archives the location. If needed, the team can still download Snapshot records as evidence.
