This topic will walk you through how to use Ironclad Editor. This includes how to access Ironclad Editor, edit a document, track changes, edit from redlines, and incorporate counterparty changes.
Ironclad Editor helps your legal team collaborate and negotiate by providing a central place for contract revisions.
Access Ironclad Editor
- To access Ironclad Editor through the Review and Change section of your workflow, hover over the document and click Edit Document indicated by a pencil icon.
- To access Ironclad Editor through your document, click on your document’s file name, and then click Edit Document located in the top right corner.
Edit a Document
- Access Ironclad Editor.
- To edit text, click into the document and make your edits. You can add new text, create new numbers within a numbered list, and add additional bullet points. To resize a table, click and drag on your table's cells. If you want to make extensive formatting changes, we recommend you download the contract, edit it in Microsoft Word, and upload it to Ironclad.
- Add an internal or external comment.
- Click Save. You are prompted to add a comment about the changes you made. This comment will be logged in the Activity Feed, along with a link to the new version of the document.
Track Changes
There are a few limitations to be aware of when tracking your changes:
Unsupported, Rendered Track Changes
The following will display in Ironclad Editor, but you will not be allowed to accept or reject them:
- Insert/Delete a table row
- Insert/Delete a table
- Join paragraph revisions that span sections or other non-paragraph elements like bookmarks
- Insert/delete overlap with a move from, or move to revision
-
Insert/Delete a content control field
Unrendered Track Changes
Unrendered changes are changes that show up in Microsoft Word but not Ironclad Editor. In some cases, we will automatically accept all of them. For example, we will accept:
- Format changes to text, tables, and paragraphs
- Updated numbering format
- Unique revision types such as custom XML revisions (probably created by third-party add-ins) and math control revisions (unlikely to appear in contracts)
- Toggle on Track Changes located at the top of the Editor to track and label all of the edits you or other users make in the document. The changes will appear as redlines in your Document Preview.
- In Ironclad Editor, click on a change to Accept or Reject it in the sidebar located on the right. If you accept the change, it is added to the document. If you reject the change, it is removed along with the user’s related actions.
Edit from Redlines
- Compare contract versions to see where your redlines are.
- Click Edit from Redlines. Compare Versions must be toggled on to see this button.
- Accept, reject, or edit the differences between the two files.
- Click Save. You are prompted to add a comment about the changes you made. This comment will be logged in the Activity Feed, along with a link to the new version of the document.
Incorporate Counterparty Changes
Your contract counterparties can send redlined contracts that contain comments, tracked changes, or both. When you use Ironclad’s Share Document feature to email draft contracts to counterparties, Ironclad can import their email responses and attachments into the contract.
- In the workflow’s Activity Feed, locate the email response.
- If you want to add their responses to the document, click Add to Workflow.
- Use Ironclad Editor to accept or reject their tracked changes.
