Manage workflow configurations by updating names, duplicating configurations, importing and exporting configurations, and moving configurations between demo and production environments. You can also duplicate a published internal or public workflow configuration as the opposite launch type without changing the original configuration.
Use Case
Use this article to maintain an existing workflow configuration or reuse a published workflow configuration for a different launch experience. For example, you can duplicate a published internal NDA as a public workflow when suppliers or counterparties need to initiate the process instead of rebuilding the configuration.

Update Your Workflow Configuration’s Title and Display Name
You can define how your workflow configuration’s name displays internally, externally, and in Workflow Designer. You can use tags to add variable information to the internal and external name.
- Select the Workflow Designer tab.
- Select the workflow configuration you want to update.
- To update the workflow configuration's name in Workflow Designer, select the name in the upper-left corner and enter the new name.
- To update how the workflow configuration appears in other places, select the Settings icon next to the name in the upper-left corner. Update the workflow configuration's internal and external display names.
- To add variable information to the internal or external name, select the text box, enter [, and begin entering an existing property or condition name. Press Enter to insert the tag.
- Select Save.
Duplicate, Export, Import, Unpublish, or Delete a Workflow Configuration
In Workflow Designer, you can duplicate, export, import, unpublish, and delete existing workflow configurations.
Note:
You can duplicate a published internal workflow configuration as a public workflow configuration, or a published public workflow configuration as an internal workflow configuration. The duplicate is separate from the original, and the original remains unchanged.
To review the available actions:
- Select the Workflow Designer tab.
- Locate the workflow configuration you want to manage, and select the three stacked dots beside it.
- Review the table below to learn more about the menu options.
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Duplicate | Creates a separate copy of the workflow configuration. By default, the duplicate is not published. For launch-type duplication, see Duplicate a Workflow Configuration as a Different Launch Type. |
| Export | Exports the workflow configuration so it can be uploaded to a different Ironclad instance. The file extension is .icb. |
| Import New Version | Imports a new version of the workflow configuration and its playbook definitions. |
| Unpublish | Unpublishes the workflow configuration. This makes it unavailable to users. If you publish it again, you must update any API and Salesforce integrations that use it. |
| Delete |
Permanently deletes the workflow configuration. This action cannot be undone. Warning: If you delete a workflow configuration that has in-progress workflows associated with it, those workflows can result in errors. |
Duplicate a Workflow Configuration as a Different Launch Type
Release: This article describes features and functionality planned for our October release. Some features may not be available until October 8, 2026.
Use this procedure to duplicate a published internal workflow configuration as a public workflow configuration, or a published public workflow configuration as an internal workflow configuration. The duplicate preserves questions, conditions, formulas, and roles.
Note:
The source workflow configuration must be published. You cannot duplicate an unpublished or Clickwrap configuration as a different launch type. Public workflows are not supported in FedRAMP environments.
- Select the Workflow Designer tab.
- Locate the published workflow configuration you want to duplicate, and select the three stacked dots beside it.
-
Select Duplicate.
- Under Duplicate as, select either:
- Internal workflow: Only members of your Ironclad team can launch this workflow.
- Public workflow: Anyone with the public link can launch this workflow.
- Select the launch type opposite the source configuration. For example, select Public workflow for a published internal workflow configuration.
- Note: If you duplicate an internal workflow configuration as a public workflow configuration, add a Workflow Owner before you publish the new configuration. The Workflow Owner assignment does not carry over to the public duplicate.
- Click Duplicate.
- Review any conflicts identified during duplication and resolve them before you use the new configuration.
You cannot duplicate multiple workflow configurations at once, and this feature does not convert or migrate in-progress workflows. Existing workflows that use the original configuration are not converted.
Move a Workflow Configuration Between Your Demo and Production Environments
You can export a workflow configuration from your demo environment and import it into your production environment.
- In your demo instance of Ironclad, select the Workflow Designer tab.
- Locate the workflow configuration you want to move, select the three stacked dots beside it, and select Export.
- In your production instance of Ironclad, select Workflow Designer > Import.
- Upload your workflow configuration file, and then select Import.
